Center for Physics Education Research, Kolkata, India
The Center for Physics Education Research (CPER) is an initiative for improving the quality of physics education in particular and science education in general, in India, by implementation of the findings of research on physics education. It is an independent non-profit center and is open for collaboration with PER groups in India and abroad.
The objectives of this center are to --
1. study the reasons behind student difficulty in conceptual understanding of physics, in schools having different characteristics (students coming from poorer/well-to-do families, school's location in urban/village settings, co-ed/ only girls'/only boys' schools, vernacular medium school/English medium school, etc.)
2. involve physics teachers of different kinds of schools in the study of these reasons by talking to students, observing classes, running designed courses in the classes, running experimental survey tests, and taking video of all these activities for later analysis at the research meetings
3. design teaching methods and course materials for a technology based learning of science
4. form a community of teachers in Kolkata, to spread this practice of research based teaching-learning techniques in all kinds of schools, at all levels
5. influence the Govt. policy makers to implement the findings from research for improvement of school science education in our country.
Physics teachers and educators are welcome to join the Center to take part in different kinds of PER related activities.
